In the event of a fire:-

• Call emergency services.
• Tackle fire only if safe.
• Isolate fuel and battery if possible.
• Secure the area, keep people away.

Fire Extinguishers Vehicles must carry:- (dry powder or equivalent)

• 2 Kg for engine or cab fire.

Plus

• Up to 3.5t gvw a second 2 Kg for tyre or vehicle fire.
• Up to 7.5t gvw a 6 Kg.
• Over 7.5 Kg gvw a minimum of 12 Kg in total.

If the load is entirely infectious substances (6.2) only the 2Kg extinguisher is required. Types of Fire Extinguisher Water

• OK for solid fuels.
• Low cost.
• Can freeze.
• Not suitable for flammable liquids or electrical.
• Messy.

Foam

• OK for solid fuels and flammable liquids.
• Not suitable for electrical.
• Can freeze.
• Very messy.

Powder

• General purpose use.
• Doesn’t cool the fire.
• Can clog up.
• Very messy.
